Dr. Zihan Ling

Dr. Zihan Ling is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Charlie (Xi) Ren’s lab at Department of Biomedical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University. He received his PhD at CMU under the mentorship by Dr. Ren and his doctoral work focused on developing a chemoselective platform to label, enrich, and characterize newly synthesized extracellular matrix (ECM), which deciphers the matrix remodeling dynamics with unprecedented temporal resolution, and broad applicability for in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo studies.

His current study focuses on ECM dynamics during pulmonary aging in mouse and organoid models; and extracellular vesicle therapy to improve lung transplantation outcome on lung grafts underwent warm ischemia injury.

For his talk, he will share his doctoral work on differentiated new ECM deposition and ECM remodeling patterns when tumor cells are cultured under two distinct 3D models: one with the support of lung-derived biomaterials and the other one as tumor spheroid.
